From Classroom to Career: Local Students Intern with GRID Alternatives

(Fresno, California) – GRID Alternatives, a national nonprofit working to build community-powered solutions to advance economic and environmental justice through renewable energy, has employed four summer interns from De Wolf High School. This summer intern program is part of GRID’s commitment to workforce development.

GRID’s interns will work for 8 days. One will focus on administrative work such as filing, tabling, presenting, and other miscellaneous office duties. Another will be working on marketing and communications needs. He will be making reels, conducting interviews, and filming and editing social media content. The last two interns will support workforce training with IBT 200, which provides hands-on training for anyone looking to enter the solar installation workforce. They will learn about cleaning, organizing, setting up and tearing down, and safety. They’ll also have the opportunity to rebuild a mock roof.

One aspect of GRID’s mission is to develop and prepare future workers to enter the workforce and achieve financial independence. By investing in curious and determined students, we’re helping to shape a more inclusive, sustainable workforce of the future.

"GRID Alternatives Central Valley is proud to work with the High School interns from Dewolf High School! At GRID Alternatives, we believe in supporting our community by investing time, knowledge, and resources in our youth. Internships provide critical insight into the inner workings of an industry. Learning firsthand how to navigate in a professional, fast-paced working environment surrounded by mentors who take time to teach and support growth will benefit younger generations to thrive in their future work experiences,” said Karina Gonzalez, Co-Executive Director of GRID Central Valley.

"Internships provide a real opportunity for students to discover interests, understand daily operations, and develop real-world skills to help build their future,” said Samuel Laplaca, construction teacher at DeWolf High.
