Syada Health Post, located in Syada, Humla, Nepal, serves a population of 2,800 in the surrounding area, seeing 15-20 people daily. It operates in a remote location with no access to the national electric grid and no vehicle access. The health post provides a variety of services, including outpatient department (OPD) care, antenatal and postnatal care (ANC/PNSC) including birth delivery, nutrition campaigns, directly observed therapy (DOT) services, community health awareness programs, polio and other vaccinations, and COVID tests. It is a government-run facility with 7 staff members.
The health post has a small solar system that powers LED lights but is insufficient for running larger electrical devices and appliances. Consequently, while they possess essential machines such as an autoclave, baby warmer, electric jug, printers, laptops, oxygen concentrators, sanitizer machines, hot water machines, and lights, they are unable to use them to their full capacity due to the lack of adequate electricity.
Solar will power essential medical equipment and provide use of life-saving tools to the medical staff. The solar system will be installed by local participants with local partners.
