IMG: Garrison Davis poses in front of several solar panels on a roof

This month we are highlighting our SolarCorps Construction & Outreach Fellow in our North Coast Office. Read on for what inspires Garrison and what brought him to GRID.

He/Him

How did you come to GRID?
After returning home from the Peace Corps I wanted to find opportunities to work internationally in the green energy sector. After searching long and hard I came across GRID. Soon after they began looking for Solar Corps so I decided to shoot my shot.

What is your favorite part of what you do at GRID?
I LOVE being on the roof. In the North Coast, a lot of our work is in somewhat remote locations, so when you're on the roof you get some amazing views of the mountains and surrounding areas. Also, wearing ropes and yo-yos makes me feel like a mountain climber. ;)

Favorite GRID moment?
Currently we're doing a series of off-grid installs. The entire process has been my favorite because it's really forced me out of my comfort zone as we've had to work in rain and muddy conditions (until recently I've held a firm anti-mud stance - that's since changed). It's also forced me to hone my problem solving skills by finding ways to around issues that would be handled differently on the roof.

What’s one thing GRID is working on now that you’re really excited to see happen this year?
I'm really excited to see how the Install Basic Training (IBT) 200 program develops in Nicaragua. I'll certainly be keeping a close eye on how it takes off and where GRID chooses to take it next!

Fun fact about you
I truly believe we can change the world.

Did you know that 1 in 5 GRID staff is a SolarCorps Fellow? Applications for the 2021-2022 cohort will be open in May! Click here to learn more about the program and apply today.
