Laura Hirshfield
National SolarCorps Director
Laura Hirshfield is a workforce development professional who has been serving communities in various capacities since 2005. Prior to moving to Los Angeles from the east coast, Laura was an English teacher for 10 years in the public school system; after a transformative fellowship at Cal Poly Pomona’s Ahimsa Center, her passion for fusing education and training with social justice was sparked. The next 10 years were spent overseeing various youth and workforce development initiatives in the Los Angeles area within the YouthBuild network and at continuation high schools, and leading professional development retreats in India to study nonviolence as a personal and professional practice. She has dedicated her professional life to applying the powers of love and opportunity to create transformational experiences for those we serve.
Laura also considers herself solar powered, and in her free time can be found hiking in the Sierras, reading by a lake on a mountaintop, practicing yoga in a park, or visiting her incredible family, especially her nephews Isaac and Asher in Boston.
