Yalitza N. Serrano Gonzalez

Yalitza N. Serrano Gonzalez is from Manatí Puerto Rico where she grew up near the area's beautiful beaches. Her university studies are in Community Social Work, with a master's degree at the Beatriz Lassalle School of the UPR of Río Piedras. Her area of research, practices and work have been linked to environmental struggles in the Archipelago, supporting community work efforts. Some of these experiences have been with key community projects such as: Casa Pueblo, Grupo Vidas, Proyecto Integración Comunitaria de San Isidro, Playas Pal’ Pueblo, Huerto, Vivero y Bosque Urbano Comunitario de Capetillo, Finca El Vapor, Proyecto Enlace del Caño Martín Peña, among others. She has also had international experience in Perú with the NGO Planeta Océano supporting the research and protection of manta rays.

Her interest in sustainable communities has led her to take courses in construction of resilient wood roofs with PRoTechos, agroecology with the El Josco Bravo Agroecological Project and in the installation of solar systems with the IBT120 course of Grid Alternatives. She is currently the Program Manager of the EPA-CCG program that will impact 50 communities in eastern Puerto Rico, supporting the resilience of 7 towns.
