Thhey Health Post and Birthing Center is located in Thhey, Humla, Nepal, and serves around 15-20 patients per day. It caters to three surrounding wards, providing a range of services including prenatal care, deliveries, general medicine, polio and other vaccinations, nutrition campaigns, and community health awareness programs. The health post is government-funded and staffed by 7 members.
However, the health post faces challenges with its small and unreliable solar power system, which leads to frequent power outages. This hinders the use of essential equipment such as a baby warmer, autoclave machine, and water heater, and renders the health post unable to serve patients.
Solar will enable the post to use autoclave machines, a baby warmer, water heater, lighting, laptops, and imagery machines. Without electricity, medical workers have no available use of electric appliances and use mobile cell phone lights to perform birth deliveries.
In 2024, GRID is working with Thhey Health Post and Birthing Center to install a solar electric system to bring a source of reliable, renewable electricity to the health center. Solar will allow Thhey Health Post and Birthing Center to save money on their electric bill on a regular basis and to improve its patient care so that it can better serve its communities.
During your trip to Nepal, you will install solar for three days in a remote region and immerse in the culture of the Humla district, and experience the bustling capital city of Kathmandu as you learn about the culture and history of Nepal along with like-minded travelers.
