GRID Alternatives Inland Empire (GRID IE) recently hosted its annual summer soiree. The 3rd Annual Summer Celebration was well attended with over 100 guests who came together to enjoy an evening of food, fun, music and networking with staff, homeowners, job trainees and friends. Each year, this annual event highlights community partners and individuals who have helped with championing the cause of sustainability within Inland Empire communities. The 2018 GRID IE Sunshine Award recipients included: 47th District Assembly Member Eloise Reyes (Equity and Justice); Brian Adkins/Bishop Paiute Tribe (Environment); Center for Employment Training-Colton (Workforce Development); Academy for Grassroots Organizations (Collaboration); San Manuel Mission Band of Mission Indians (Corporate Partner of the Year); and City of Moreno Valley (Public Partner of the Year). GRID IE also introduced new Advisory Board Members Blaine Boyer, Michelle Pierce and George Puddephatt who assisted in presenting Sunshine Awards to the honorees. This year, Summer Celebration was an official registered participant of the National Drive Electric Week, which drew 12 registered vehicles ranging from three Tesla’s, a Nissan Leaf, an electric motorcycle and more. Raceway Ford also participated for the first time, and they brought a black Ford Fusion for guests to test drive. The Center for Sustainable Energy, based in San Diego, shared information about the clean vehicle rebate program and had an electric vehicle on display. Guests enjoyed listening to the jazzy smooth sounds of HPE All Stars sponsored by Hot Purple Energy, a hosted taco bar, beverages sponsored by Euryale Brewery and a wide range of cool raffle prizes.
