Martin Luther King Jr. Day of National Service was recognized across the U.S. as people rolled up their sleeves and took part in projects to better their community. For GRID Alternatives AmeriCorps members, this was a day to celebrate their year-long service to GRID Alternatives. Our members play an important role in helping reduce energy bills for low-income homeowners and teaching job-trainees for the growing solar installation field.
They honored the spirit of MLK by working with families in their communities this week. Members Anton, Peter, and Serena in our Central Coast office worked with and installed a system for the Camacho family, while members Luis, Sergio, and Scott worked with families in the North Valley to install solar.
The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has been running MLK Day of Service since 1994. "It's part of core American values to get citizens engaged and it's very unifying to have people serving for a common cause This is sort of the kickoff for volunteer service for the year," said Wendy Spencer, CEO of CNCS.
Thanks so much to our partners at California Volunteers and CNCS for granting us six awesome AmeriCorps members. Most importantly, thanks to our AmeriCorps members for their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication to service!
