The Lexington Green Apartments are located in a quiet neighborhood in El Cajon, CA. These apartments offer safe and affordable housing units in a walkable part of town, and the apartment units range in size from one to three bedrooms.
GRID Alternatives was contracted by Preservation Equity Funds to bring 281kW of solar to the Lexington Green Apartments this summer. GRID Alternatives San Diego office led the charge on the installation of the panels while our HQ staff managed the interconnection to the grid on the ground. The design included multiple solar arrays spread across thirteen buildings. The panels were attached to the roof using fixed tilt racking by Solar Strap, who donated the material (valued at $54,710) and even provided in-person training to install the system. Donations like these make a large impact on the work done at GRID Alternatives! This installation was so successful that it was selected for Giv4 Climate’s nonprofit feature.
In addition to bringing solar to homes at little to no cost, GRID is also committed to creating job training opportunities that are accessible and inclusive of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in solar. These groups include women, people of color, and those impacted by the criminal justice system. Four graduates from GRID’s workforce development program assisted to kick off the project at Lexington Green Apartments, gaining valuable industry hands-on experience.
This project is expected to provide $94,998 in annual savings to residents and admin at Lexington Green Apartments, lowering utility bills significantly while contributing to a cleaner and greener neighborhood. A big thank you to GRID Alternatives San Diego, Solar Strap, and the workforce development volunteers for contributing to this impactful project!
