Four cities, 47 volunteers, and a whole lot of solar! Earlier this month, NRG Energy employees rolled up their sleeves and took to rooftops across California with GRID as part of their annual positiveNRG week of volunteering. With their help, five more families from San Diego to Sacramento can now look forward to clean energy and electricity savings powered by the sun!
NRG volunteers kicked things off in Sacramento on May 17, helping test panels, cut rails, and lay racking for the Del Rio Torres family’s system. The next day, another team helped to install solar for not one, but two Atascadero families as part of GRID Central Coast’s annual Solarthon installation and block party event. And in San Diego, more #NRGPeoplePower helped the Greninger family go solar and begin generating energy savings.
Lee Tolchin, of NRG’s West Region IT department was excited to participate in the San Diego event. “Working with the GRID team is an awesome experience,” he said. “They not only get us going quickly, and safely on the job, but also offer and nurture a fantastic experience in every aspect throughout the build.”
In San Francisco, 11 NRG volunteers wrapped up the week by installing a 3.1-kilowatt system for the Wu family, who moved to the Bay Area from China seeking a better future for their family. They recently had their roof replaced through a city re-roofing program, and were thrilled to start saving money on their energy bills.
NRG’s volunteerism and philanthropic support during positiveNRG week will save these five families a combined $164,000 over the systems’ lifetimes and prevent 340 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to planting nearly 7,600 trees!
Thanks, NRG, for sharing your #positiveNRG with us!
