San Antonio Necua is an off-grid town in the municipality of Tecate in northern Baja California, Mexico. Many residents belong to the Kumeyaay nation, an indigenous group of people who lives in both Mexico and the US.
GRID has been working with the community of Juntas de Neji since 2018 and has brought solar to homes and to the local school and then GRID installed off-grid solar-powered refrigerators in ten homes so residents have a way to keep food, drinks and medicine cold.
In September 2023, GRID worked together with the Kumeyaay community of San Antonio Necua in Baja California, Mexico to bring solar to two community projects. The community's off-grid health clinic now has a battery-based PV system providing reliable electricity to power lights and medical appliances.
