According to The Solar Foundation's solar job census, women make up only 26% of the solar workforce. That representation is even less in construction positions. Women's voices, talents, and leadership are needed more than ever to build a strong and sustainable solar industry. Through our Women in Solar program, we're working to build a diverse, equitable, and inclusive industry by providing pathways to technical careers for women*.
This Women's Equality Day, we're celebrating the hard work of all women in the clean energy industry with our friends at Sunrun!
Meet Laura Galavis. Laura is a Solar Installation Supervisor at GRID Alternatives Bay Area. She started at GRID as a volunteer in San Diego in 2014 and quickly moved from volunteer to intern to a full-time construction position. Now, Laura leads crews throughout the Bay Area making solar technology and job training accessible to everyone.
Happy Women's Equality Day from GRID Alternatives and Sunrun!
*People who identify as non-binary and feel they belong in our community are invited to participate in our Women in Solar Program.
