Veterans

Gregory Willis, a Marine Corps Veteran, retired in the same Compton neighborhood he grew up in and he’s seen a lot of change: What used to be farmland is now housing as far as the eye can see, and the high school down the road was a horse stable where he rode with his dad back in the 1950’s. And now, with brand new solar panels on his roof, he’s leading a change of his own.

Three branches of the U.S. Military joined forces to install a 3.4 kilowatt AC solar electric system for the King family in South Los Angeles on Friday February 21st. This project came to be through the efforts of Geoff Harjo, a U.S. Army Veteran who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan and who is currently completing a 6-month fellowship with GRID Alternatives through The Mission Continues.

The measures will boost the health, safety, energy efficiency and aesthetics of a low-income resident – who also happens to be a military veteran – who otherwise would not be able to afford these services.
