Perris homeowner Sergio Carrasco is an Army vet who is very active in the support of military families. He found out about GRID’s Troops to Solar program and how GRID provides an intensive training regimen that includes building a knowledge base of photovoltaic (PV) systems.

This past Saturday, Melvin Ray Jackson, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam, welcomed a special group of visitors to his Richmond home: local veteran leaders who joined GRID staff to install 4.25 kw of solar. The install, a part of GRID’s Troops to Solar Program, will save the Jackson’s more than $1,600 each year!

GRID Alternatives North Valley hosted another successful Vets Serving Vets installation at the home of Kenneth Brown last month in Sacramento. This special installation was inspired by our Troops to Solar initiative as well as our Women in Solar initiative, as five members of the Women’s Veterans Alliance stepped up to serve their fellow veteran.

Marissa Torres sits at the reception desk at GRID Central Valley eagerly typing away. She is always quiet and polite but one should not mistake the dynamic force that lingers within this young woman. She is a queen on the rise with a mission to serve. GRID Alternatives is very proud to make her a permanent part of the family after her year of service through SolarCorps.

It is our volunteers who make our work at GRID possible. During this holiday season, we would like to shine the solar spotlight on one particular volunteer, Shawn Kerek, who has already given so much in service.
