GRID Alternatives and trusted community partner Elevate are hosting the RE+ Midwest Clean Energy Job Fair in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, November 15th, 10am - 1pm CST at Palmer House, Hilton Hotel. The Clean Energy Job Fair will bring diverse job seekers with industry expertise and transferable skills, and the best solar and clean energy employers in the region under one roof, to connect and learn about all that the booming Midwest Clean Energy industry has to offer!
GRID Alternatives is thrilled to announce that Grist, a leading environmental news organization, has selected Tanksi Clairmont, GRID’s Director of the Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund, as one of the distinguished recipients of the prestigious Grist 50 Award. The Grist 50 Award is an annual recognition that honors emerging leaders from various fields who are driving positive change and innovation in the realm of sustainability and climate action.
Today, BMO announced a $3 million donation in support of GRID Alternative’s (GRID) low-to-no cost solar energy systems and storage, clean mobility, and job training programs for underserved and unserved families throughout California, Colorado, and Native communities in the western United States. GRID, the nation’s leading nonprofit solar installer, partners with organizations to build community-powered solutions to enable access to renewable energy.
GRID Alternatives, the largest nonprofit installer of renewable energy in the U.S., announced a renewed partnership with Bank of America. Bank of America is a long-standing corporate partner that has renewed its investment of $300,000 in one of GRID’s workforce development programs, the SolarCorps Fellowship Program. This funding will support GRID’s 37 SolarCorps Fellows in obtaining hands-on experience, mentorship, professional development, and increased knowledge about a career in renewable energy.
GRID Alternatives is deeply disappointed in the initial guidance released by the Biden Administration regarding its implementation of the new Low-Income Communities Bonus Credit Program established by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). With little explanation, the Treasury Department rejected program design recommendations developed through intensive collaboration with clean energy industry, environmental nonprofit, affordable housing, and social, economic, and racial justice advocate leaders.
As the nation’s largest nonprofit solar installer, GRID was pleased to participate in the Community Solar Power Summit in San Diego, CA on January 18-19, 2023 and host a “Developer & Contractor Diversity Networking Fair,” on January 19. With more than 50 participants in the room, this event provided a dedicated space for a diverse network of contractors to connect with national and regional community solar developers.
GRID Alternatives believes that the final decision is gambling on a complicated incentive structure that uses a conservative estimate of project installation costs in order to achieve a targeted nine-year payback. It remains to be seen whether this approach will truly achieve more environmental and economic justice through clean energy.
