As the clean energy industry grows, it’s critical that environmental and social justice remains at the forefront of our efforts, including continued action to integrate diversity, equity and inclusion into hiring practices and organizational culture, at all levels.
This year, in honor of Women in Construction Week 2023, GRID Alternatives San Diego took an internal look at where we are and how far we have come. We discovered hope and joy but also - a lot of room for growth.
Juan struggled to acquire a full-time job. He would often find himself jumping from one part-time job to another and stated, “I could never get paid more than minimum wage in any job I had before, but since graduating from GRID Alternatives IBT-200 solar training in 2021, he has had four or five interviews with solar companies, and they all offered better pay.”
Twin brothers Mario and Jesus “Jesse” Venegas heard about GRID Alternatives Installation Basics Training (IBT 200) program in the Central Valley from their cousin.

Awad was looking for a new beginning. After two incarcerations and with a baby on the way, he wanted to get a job and a fresh start for himself and his growing family.
