GRID Alternatives announced today an expansion into international markets through an acquisition of Power to the People, a U.S.-based non-profit doing work in Nicaragua. The move, which is pending regulatory approval, will allow GRID Alternatives to bring its volunteer-based solar installation program to Latin America and beyond in the coming years. 

Eleven students from the University of Michigan are soaking up the California sunshine this year not on the beach, but on the rooftop, installing solar power for three tribal families at the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians reservation through GRID Alternatives’ Solar Spring Break. 

SunEdison and SunEdison Foundation announced a $1.2 million philanthropic partnership with GRID Alternatives. Together the organizations are launching a National Women in Solar Initiative with the goal of increasing the number of women in the solar industry and supporting their professional advancement.

RGS Energy, a nationwide leader of turnkey solar energy solutions for residential, commercial, and utility customers, and GRID Alternatives, the nation’s largest non-profit solar installer, have launched a new partnership to help bring solar power to low-income communities across the country. 

Enphase Energy, Inc., today announced a major expansion of its philanthropic partnership with GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit that makes solar power and solar job training available to underserved communities. Over the last four years, GRID Alternatives and Enphase have powered over 1,000 low-income homes across the U.S., generating over $25 million in long-term savings to help these families pay for basic expenses. 

The White House honored GRID Alternatives for its work in solar deployment.

In support of the Obama administration’s national renewable energy goals, GRID Alternatives is committing to help install 100 MW of solar power on affordable single-family and multifamily homes across the country by 2024.
