Solar Spring Break

Solar Spring Break kicked off earlier this month. We caught up with Rionna Octaviano, a student from University of Nevada, Reno who was headed off to her fourth Solar Spring Break!

Joseph first heard about GRID Alternatives seven years ago from Lisa Castilone, GRID IE’s Tribal Manager and Outreach Coordinator. After a presentation about job training opportunities and the solar programs that GRID Alternatives offers, Joseph realized the potential impacts that no-cost solar could have for himself and his tribe.

As we glance back at 2018, there are many positive achievements that GRID can be thankful for here in the IE.

This Veterans Day we look back on our Solar Spring Break in Sacramento with the Veteran Conservation Corp (VCC) and our interview with veteran Kim Pham, a former GRID volunteer and VCC internship coordinator.

Sam Laveson is a sophomore studying Geology and Earth Sciences at the College of William & Mary who led GRID’s first Solar Spring Break Intercollegiate Team as they installed solar alongside our North Valley staff members. GRID North Valley welcomed a Solar Spring Break team of veterans from Perry Technical Institute from Washington for a week of hands-on solar training and service.

The City of Pittsburg baked in the springtime sun as Steven Chan sought shelter underneath a sprawling, leafy tree. Along with eleven other students from the University of California, Berkeley, Steven was spending day two of his spring break week not on the beach, but rather installing solar for low-income families and translating classroom concepts to real solutions as a part of GRID Bay Area’s Solar Spring Break program.
