Bridges at Florence, a low income multi-family housing complex receives solar panels

Five volunteers and six GRID staff volunteers from the United States donated their time to help make possible the installation of a solar system and a coffee roaster for a women’s coffee cooperative in El Regadio, Nicaragua.

This August, volunteers from U.S. Bank joined the GRID Alternatives Colorado team in Thornton, CO to install the 3.7-kilowatt solar system on the Otterson family home.

The Oasis House is a 5-acre facility in Apple Valley, California ran by Cedar House, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that helps improve the lives of individuals and families suffering from substance abuse or co-disorders.

This month we had some very special visitors swing by our offices. Julia Burrows, Senior Policy Advisor on Housing and Climate issues to Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Jennifer Venema, Sustainability Manager for the City of Sacramento toured our Technical Academy.

Leandrus is a Nicaraguan engineer who volunteered with GRID Alternatives to give back to his country and the experience ended up changing his life. Leandrus shares his motivation to become a volunteer and how he used that experience to switch careers and help his country provide for its citizens in a sustainable way.
