As 2016 continues to unfold, GRID celebrates its new partnership with Parlier Unified School District. On a recent chilly February morning, fifteen high school students from agriculture classes at Parlier High School came out to learn how to install solar in Parlier, a small town of 15,000 residents.

Corey, GRID Colorado’s new Development Intern and a Metropolitan State University senior, started working with GRID last month to build our capacity to fundraise and build partnerships to strengthen our Solar Affordable Housing and Workforce Development Programs.

Great news! This past Wednesday the California Solar Job Census Report was released.

As we gear up for another busy year at GRID, we want to take a moment to reflect on and celebrate our success in 2015. Thanks to all of our supporters, homeowners, and volunteers, it has been an amazing year in the Bay Area! Here are a few key wins from 2015:

At the Solar Power International (SPI) tradeshow in September, we convened a panel of diversity experts to talk about the benefits of a diverse workforce, and what their companies have been doing to support diversity in their own workplaces. We learned a ton, and wanted to share the top takeaways!

Solar Futures graduate builds a solar career path

Starting a new year, GRID Alternatives Central Coast is looking back on the wonderful work we’ve accomplished in 2015…A New office opening, 123 systems installed, 17 job trainees hired in the Clean Energy sector, and bringing more and more solar to the Central Coast residents who need it most! We are so grateful to all our supporters and we definitely couldn’t do it without YOU!

On Thursday, December 17th GLA had our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party. Over 120 volunteers, homeowners, board members, and staff gathered in the GLA warehouse to celebrate the amazing work we’ve done this year.

As the new year approaches, on behalf of everyone at GRID Alternatives Central Valley, we thank all who helped make 2015 a successful year. Our office has experienced enormous growth over the year, as we added 12 new members to help take on the new tasks, as we continue to expand our territory within the Central Valley.

As a job trainee through WESTCARE, Kenneth Mull was not sure what to expect when he was invited to attend a presentation for free training in solar installation. The presentation offered opportunities to gain employment in the solar industry through free hands on training. Deciding to give GRID Alternatives a chance, he soon found himself on a rooftop in the Central Valley installing his first solar system. Finding joy and passion in the work that he was doing, he quickly realized that he could make a career out of installing solar.
