“I’m on a single income that I get at the beginning of the month, and by the 10th, I’m broke,” shares Mrs. Morris, noting that the lower energy bills brought by solar would be a big help, if it weren’t for the up-front cost.
Following the 2015 Valley Fire, GRID Alternatives Bay Area/North Coast  began looking for opportunities to pair rebuilt homes with solar and its associated cost savings. Earlier this month, on a scorching 119 degree day, the Wasik Family became the first fire survivors to receive a GRID solar system, nearly a year to the day after moving in to their rebuilt home.

We recently reached a huge milestone by installing our 10,000th solar electric system in Rancho Cordova! To celebrate this huge accomplishment, supporters, dignitaries such as Mayor Linda Burge, other solar industry professionals, and media outlets joined our team along with GRID CEO Erica Mackie for a gathering at recipient Brita West's home. Over the course of setting up this installation we encountered a few barriers, but with the help of Rebuilding Together to assist Brita with a new roof, we were finally able to move  forward.

Below is a guest blog from Barbara Postel, a resident of the Atchison Village community where GRID held it’s 13th Annual Solarthon event. Barbara, whose solar system had been installed prior to the event, spent her Saturday giving back to GRID alongside the team of Solar Champions who had fundraised in support of the event. We are so lucky to have amazing people like you in the GRID family, Barbara!
