Job Training

The room was completely full as the final session of our design training series wrapped up on Tuesday December 16th. The training series included Introduction to PV Design, Structural PV Design, and Electrical PV Design. It was the first time GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles (GLA) held a design training for its volunteers outside of the training they receive during installs.

For Fay and Russell Landry, one sunny day leads to another, for on Tuesday, November 18 they received a free photovoltaic solar energy system that not only will nearly eliminate their electrical costs while contributing to a greener planet, but offered the opportunity to River City High School students to be part of their solar system installation.

Over the course of two weeks, Rising Sun Energy Center partnered with GRID Alternatives Bay Area for a GRID-customized intensive solar PV training course to supplement their pre-apprenticeship program that prepares adults for careers in construction, energy efficiency, and the solar industry. Unsurprisingly, the students benefited most from connecting classroom experience to the hands-on work GRID provides!

When Francisco Rosas got laid off from the Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs, he decided to give the solar industry a try. So Rosas enrolled in solar installation classes at College of the Desert four years ago — but he had trouble grasping all of the material. That changed when Rosas started volunteering for GRID Alternatives.
